Michelle Filice was born and raised in Connecticut. She headed west to Colorado State University were she earned her BA in Art History. Moving further west to California more than a decade ago, she currently resides in the bay area as a full time painter and mother of two.
Michelle descibes herself as an impressionistic realist. "I paint on location "en plein air", then return to the studio to recreate my experience in a larger format." A black belt in Tae Kwon Do helps her endurance and focus. "Painting is a physical activity and can be draining. Similar to martial arts training, painting keeps my mind and body sharp."
Education is also a part of the process. Michelle is currently enrolled in the MFA program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has taken workshops from notable artists Betty Carr, Brian Blood, Kevin Macpherson, Scott Christensen and Ovanes Berberian.
Michelle is a member of Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, the California Art Club, Women Artists of the West, and the Los Gatos Art Association. She is represented by The Los Gatos Museum's Gallery in Los Gatos, CA and Arata Fine Art Gallery in San Francisco, CA.
